Quail Track Diagrams Book 1: Following the latest books in the series, the fifth edition has been converted to colour and updated to December 2007. It has extra pages and a wealth of new detail. There has been considerable change in the region since the 2001 edition. There are new lines that have opened (Maryhill to Anniesland and the single line to Larkhall) or are close to being opened (Alloa/Kincardine). These are shown in detail. Where work has started but the opening is not immediate (Annan doubling) or the opening is some way off (Airdrie/Bathgate), we show outline details or a note. There are many other changes, large and small, including the new layouts at Edinburgh Waverley and Shields Junction. The area covered can be seen from the Index Map here. The standard Quail Track Diagrams layout is used in schematic format including all track work, stations, level crossings, tunnels, signal boxes and other major infrastructure with electrified lines shown in colour. Coverage includes Network Rail routes with distances plus private and preserved lines. The key, abbreviations set and level crossing designations follow the format now standardised across the series and the Index is extended to nearly 2,000 items. The latest feature from Book 2, the addition of start and finish pages for the items in the ELR index, is also included. |
